Temporary trail closure for Cobble Hill
LAKE PLACID — The Adirondack Land Trust announced Tuesday, Aug. 6 that the Cobble Hill trail off Mirror Lake Drive will be temporarily closed for trail work through the end of the work week, Friday, Aug. 9, and again from Monday, Aug. 12 to Thursday, Aug. 15.
Professional trail builders will be using heavy equipment to top the dirt tread with natural material. The temporary closures give the trail crew the space and time they need to work safely and efficiently.
The trail will be open on weekends during this time. Current information will be posted on AllTrails, a mobile trail app.
This work follows construction of a 250-foot boardwalk, two bridge installations, trail reroutes, stone staircases, and other improvements to make the Cobble Hill trail safer and more enjoyable for hikers of a wide range of ages, experience and ability.
“It’s been great to hear from people appreciating the trail improvements thus far. We thank hikers for adhering to the temporary closure during this final phase of work,” said Northwood School Associate Head of School for External Affairs Thomas Broderick.
Northwood School owns the land crossed by the trail.
This community-led initiative is a partnership between Northwood School, the Adirondack Land Trust, town of North Elba, Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism, Lake Placid 9’er hiking challenge, state Department of Environmental Conservation, Barkeater Trails Alliance and private landowners. The project is funded by grants from North Elba LEAF, New York State Conservation Partnership Program and gifts from community members.
