Hockey-themed arcade, restaurant proposed for Main St.
LAKE PLACID — The North Elba-Lake Placid Review Board heard a proposal Wednesday, Aug. 21 for a new hockey-themed arcade and restaurant planned for Main Street.
Local resident Kristeen Colby has applied for authorization to open the arcade in the lower story of 2663 Main St., where Mito Japanese Steakhouse is currently located. The arcade would serve hockey-themed drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Initially, they plan to sell concession stand foods like chicken fingers, french fries, and popcorn, with the eventual goal of branching out to pizza in the shape of hockey sticks, Colby said during the meeting on Wednesday. There would be two separate sections, one for adults and the other open to kids. They plan to have hockey-themed prizes and the games will run on tokens.
Colby said they would not need substantial renovations and that they would mainly change the decor. She does not know when they will be ready to open, but hopes they will be open in early 2025.
Colby, whose young girls both play hockey locally, said their friends and teammates are already excited to visit the arcade.
“They can’t wait to have a place where all the families can come have a great time, hang out, be able to eat and enjoy each other,” Colby said.
The review board agreed to scheduled a site visit. A notice to neighbors of the property will be issued.
The former tenants’ lease ends Sept. 30, according to review board documents. It is unclear whether Mito Japanese Steakhouse is closing or relocating. The owners could not be reached by the deadline.
The review board also approved new signs for both Darrah Cooper Jewelers and Burnham Benefit Advisors on Aug. 21.
