The on-screen action kicks off with a 20th-anniversary showing of “Miracle.” The 2004 film chronicles the 1980 United States Men’s Olympic Hockey team’s improbable path — which included an upset of the Soviet Union’s team — to the gold medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics held in Lake Placid. Buzz Schneider, a team member, will be in attendance for the screening. The film screening is from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Palace Theatre.

Four films are slated for Friday. The first is “I’m Still Here,” which screens from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Palace Theatre. The 2024 film follows Eunice Paiva, a mother of five children. She is forced to reinvent herself after her family suffers a violent and arbitrary act by the Brazilian government, where they live. The political drama — which is based on a true story — is set in 1971, when Brazil was facing an authoritarian military dictatorship, and is directed by Walter Salles.
“Bird,” a 2024 drama that focuses on coming-of-age will screen from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The film follows 12-year-old Bailey, who lives with her devoted but chaotic single dad Bug and wayward brother Hunter in a squat in England. Bailey is approaching puberty and seeking attention and adventure, according to the film’s description.
“Bailey’s fractured home life is transformed when she encounters Bird, a mysterious stranger on a journey of his own. A wondrous portrait of the transition from childhood to adolescence that remains grounded in her typically empathetic social realism, Arnold’s latest strides to the wildly poetic rhythm of her own drum.”
The Barkeater Trails Alliance, a local mountain biking organization, will be premiering a double feature from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. “In the Dirt” and “Descendence” each focus on the social impacts tied to mountain biking and skiing.
The night on-screen wraps up with “Luther: Never Too Much.” The documentary tells the story of Luther Vandross, a musician and vocalist known for his work from the 1970s through the early 2000s. The film screens from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Palace Theatre.
“The film explores his musical talent but also his character, style, humor, relationship with family, friends, fans and the incredible artists he collaborated with,” according to its description. Those artists include Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick, David Bowie, Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin.
