Area artist’s paintings to be on display Dec. 13, 14

One of the works, “Bearcub” by Ingrid van Slyke.

Ingrid van Slyke is a Lake Placid resident and artist who has received a grant from the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts/New York State Council on the Arts.

“My project proposal is to create a painting a week for a year,” she said. “The body of the work is paintings of Lake Placid but in a different way.

“This is a yearlong journey depicting Lake Placid from a narrative of everyday life. This work focuses on the mundane yet special spaces within our community. The paintings will resemble snapshots of locations in and around Lake Placid in different seasons. I want to acknowledge the local community and to portray the simple beauty that tends to be overlooked as we go on about or daily lives. Some examples of spaces and locations I have been painting are: The graveyards, the churches, lacrosse fields, the high school, small landscapes around town, the town hall, the dump, the VFW, playgrounds, traffic stops. Generally, places and spaces that residents have experienced, and we all share.

All 52 paintings will be on exhibit at Heaven Hill Farm the weekend of Dec. 13 and 14. “I wanted a location for resid

ents to easily access. All the paintings will be for sale, and more than half of the proceeds will be going to a local charity.”

Starting at $1.44/week.
