‘Murder on Skis’ author coming to Lake Placid Saturday
Phil Bayly’s newest Murder on Skis Mystery is titled “A Small Mountain Murder.” A celebrity meets with a fiery death.
Police apply the heat, but can they stop a cold-blooded killer?
Bayly is the author of six Murder on Skis Mysteries, including “Back Dirt,” which was set in the Adirondacks and was a finalist for an American Fiction Award.
Bayly will be signing books in Lake Placid on Saturday at Bookstore Plus from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be copies for sale of all his books, including his Adirondacks drama, “Back Dirt,” and his latest, “A Small Mountain Murder.”
His newest novel weaves a story around small hills and small towns.
“I grew up skiing small hills,” Bayly says. “They brought skiing to the United States. Wilmot in Wisconsin, Howelsen Hill in Colorado. I got to ski the hill at West Point last winter. I loved it! I’m a little young to have skied Marble Mountain, but I wish I could have. To me, These small ski hills are all like visiting the nation’s great battlefields. I get to walk in the footsteps of men and women who did remarkable things.”
A Small Mountain Murder follows Television reporter JC Snow from Colorado to Wisconsin to solve a murder. He encounters a crusading newspaper journalist who exposes politicians when they betray the public trust.
Other books in Bayly’s award winning Murder on Skis series include The Man Who Had 9 Lives, Witch Window, Back Dirt, Loving Lucy and the original Murder on Skis.
In a Times Union newspaper review, Jack Rightmyer wrote that Bayly is an expert at creating memorable characters,
“And a plot that moves very fast. I’ve always loved his dialogue which is lightning quick and often quite humorous.”
Bayly was a journalist in television and radio for over four decades, beginning his career in Colorado and ending it in New York.
For 15 years, he anchored the morning news on Newschannel 13 TV in Albany. His novels include some of his real-life adventures.
He grew up in suburban Chicago and graduated from Colorado State University. He now lives in Saratoga County with his wife.
“You never forget the small mountain where you first learned to ski or snowboard,” Bayly says. “It’s like your first kiss.”
A Small Mountain Murder is a tale of madness in the Midwest. It will keep readers intrigued ’til the cows come home!
