Backwoods Brass performs Saturday
On Saturday at 7 p.m., the Backwoods Brass will perform a holiday concert in the Great Room at Saranac Village at Will Rogers. This five-piece brass band assembles the extraordinary musical talents of Jon Dallas, John Harshey, Keith Kogut, Samantha and Joe Marocco. Jon Dallas played trombone for Music Theater North and the All-Star Big Band for many years. After moving to Minnesota, he played piano with Ivo Trio and trombone with The Big Time Jazz Orchestra, The Temptations, The Harry James Orchestra and the Northern Lights Music Festival. He was once fortunate enough to play jazz duets backstage with Dizzy Gillespie. John Harshey is a retired band director from Northern Illinois who moved to the Adirondacks a few years ago to be closer to family. John has been in a variety of musical ensembles and has also performed at the Whiteface Mountain Oktoberfest. He will be playing tuba. Keith Kogut is a graduate of the Crane School of Music and in addition to leading the Saranac Lake High School Orchestra and Jazz Band, he plays trumpet with the Adirondack Jazz Orchestra, the Northern Symphonic Winds and the Adirondack Wind Ensemble. French Horn player Samantha Marocco recently earned a doctoral degree in Health Professions Education and is a Professor of Physical Therapy. She has played with the Strawhatter’s and the SUNY Plattsburgh Concert Bands. Joe Marocco dusted off his trumpet a few years ago and has since performed with the Adirondack Wind Ensemble, the Strawhatter’s and the SUNY Plattsburgh Jazz & Concert Bands, as well as local theater productions, including Damn Yankees. Come hear these fabulous musicians bring some of your favorite holiday songs to life the Great Room at Saranac Village at Will Rogers. Admission is a $5 suggested donation.
