Weinstein Memorial fundraiser benefits ski patrol fund
WILMINGTON – Elevation Planning and Events is proud to announce the Steven Weinstein Memorial Fundraiser, a special evening to honor the life and legacy of Steven Weinstein and support the Whiteface Mountain Volunteer Ski Patrol Scholarship Fund. The event will take place on Friday, Jan. 24, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., at The Twisted Raven, located at 8 Whiteface Highway.
This fundraiser, commemorating the 40th anniversary of Steven Weinstein’s tragic skiing accident that led to his loss of life, aims to raise funds for scholarships that will assist current and future Whiteface Mountain Volunteer Ski Patrollers in pursuing EMT training and certification. These dedicated volunteers play a vital role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of skiers and snowboarders on the mountain.
Event Highlights:
— Live Music by the Midnight Stargazers
— Raffles and Silent Auctions featuring exciting prizes
— Friends and Family VIP Lounge, featuring food, drinks, raffle tickets and presentation. Tickets available for purchase for this special addition to the event.
The event is free and open to the public, making it a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate Steven Weinstein’s enduring legacy and support the invaluable work of the Whiteface Mountain Volunteer Ski Patrol.
Weinstein began skiing in 1960 when his family started making regular trips from New Jersey to Whiteface Mountain. His passion for skiing and dedication to the sport led him to volunteer during the 1980 Winter Olympics at Whiteface and later to join the Whiteface Mountain Volunteer Ski Patrol in 1981. On Dec. 30, 1984, he suffered a tragic skiing accident during an early morning run before the lifts opened.
To honor his memory, the Steven Weinstein Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to provide critical support to patrollers as they pursue advanced medical training.
“We are deeply grateful for the contributions of the Whiteface Mountain Volunteer Ski Patrol,” said Susan Weinstein Albert, Weinstein’s sister and founder of the Scholarship. “This fundraiser is a meaningful way to honor Steven’s love for skiing and commitment to the mountain, while also supporting those who keep it safe for everyone.”
Details are available on our Facebook event page “Weinstein Memorial Ski Patrol Fundraiser”. Sponsorships and monetary or merchandise raffle donations are still being accepted. For more information or to purchase VIP Lounge tickets, contact Susan.Weinstein.Albert@gmail.com
