Winifred (Wendy) M. Jewtraw

Winifred (Wendy) M. Jewtraw, 91, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022.
Born on June 14, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of Charles and Marion (Blanchard) Winchell.
She grew up mostly, in Lake Placid, where she also raised her family. Wendy’s chosen profession was in the field of nursing. For nearly 45 years, she worked in hospitals and nursing homes in Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Virginia Beach, Virginia. In addition to nursing, Wendy was a Sunday school teacher, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and a Hospice Care volunteer. Wendy loved her Yankee games, long walks, swimming in Lake Clear, traveling, knitting and crocheting, and reading, especially her Bible and various Christian books. She enjoyed her family and was always interested in what was happening in each one’s life.
Wendy is survived by her six children, Alexis Chapman of Woodlawn, Virginia, Amy (Greg) Mace of Saranac Lake, Amanda (Patrick) Redman of Saranac Lake, Judith (Kevin) Geesler of Saranac Lake, Leo (JR) (Heidi) Jewtraw of Lake Placid, and Julie (Brian) Barney of Lake Placid; and her dear friend, Kathy Achacki, of Lake Clear. Wendy is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Wendy is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, George; two sisters, Jean Hare and Ruth Sigsby; first husband, Harold Wells; second husband, Leo Jewtraw; and son-in-law, Michael Chapman.
There will be no services at this time. An interment service will be held in the spring.
