Ragweed fires
–
In concurrence with the recommendations this summer of Professor Hodgson on hay fever conditions in Lake Placid, Supervisor Willis Wells has taken steps to eliminate the small amount of ragweed and golden rod growing here.
Town highway forces have burned over the roadside areas thereby entirely eliminating the few pollen-bearing weeds found to exist in the area surrounding Lake Placid. He also has a force of Park District workers burning over the entire airport on which some golden rod was found. This will not only eliminate the golden rod but will further improve the airport.
When the scattered miniature ragweed plants that grow within the village, particularly those around the municipal toboggan slide, are removed, Lake Placid can truthfully advertise the fact that it is a haven for hay fever sufferers.

Ski center progress
–
The new Scott’s Cobble ski center, located at the country club, being developed by the Park District as part of a comprehensive plan to make Lake Placid the most outstanding ski center on the North American continent, is progressing rapidly.
Under the supervision of Willis Wells, supervisor, a large force of men have been engaged in cutting trees, clearing underbrush and grading the old slalom course. When completed, Lake Placid will have one of the finest slalom courses in the country. Adjacent to the slalom course will be a wide open slope on which it will be possible for beginners to learn skiing.
The project includes the construction of two downhill runs immediately adjacent, all of which will be served by a centralized ski tramway. Work on the downhill runs will be started as soon as the ski club secures right-of-way on adjacent property.

Scott’s Cobble tow
–
Seth Pollard, engineer with Ski Town, Inc., will be in Lake Placid on Friday to inspect the terrain at Scott’s Cobble, the new ski development being built on the outskirts of the village. Mr. Pollard was summoned by Supervisor Willis Wells and the town board whom he will accompany to the skiing site to discuss the type of ski tow which will be best adapted to the particular slope.
Plans call for a ski tramway of the latest type 2,400 feet long in which the skier rides comfortably to the top. The tramway will be centrally located and will serve the slalom course, downhill trails and open slopes. A committee from the Lake Placid Ski Club has been appointed by President William Hovey to accompany the group to the ski field. These are Carl Thornton, Ronald MacKenzie, Frank Bombard and Leslie Nash.

NYC Snow Show
–
Definite assurance that Lake Placid will be represented by a booth, boosting the cold weather advantages of this resort, at the Winter Sport Show at Madison Square Garden, Dec. 7 to 11, was given following a joint meeting of the Publicity Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and a committee from the Lake Placid Ski Club Friday night at the arena.
The ski club, through the special subscription fund it has raised, will plan and construct the display while the Chamber of Commerce arranges for the booth at the show, the transportation and two attendants during the four-days of exhibitions and activity.
