Garden plots available in the Lake Placid Community Garden

To the editor:

The Lake Placid Community Garden has a couple open plots available for the 2024 growing season.

The Community Garden provides a space for members of the community to get their hands dirty and grow their own food and or flowers in their own designated plot. The garden is completely fenced in to prevent damage from wildlife. There are tools available for garden members to use along with water and garden hoses near each plot and areas to compost.

Having a plot within the Community Garden allows the opportunity to connect with folks of similar interests and learn from fellow gardeners in Lake Placid.

The Community Garden is located at the corner of Old Military Road and John Brown Road. The property is owned by the Cornell University Uihlein Maple Research Forest which helps to facilitate the garden along with the garden members.

There is a $25 use fee for the garden plot each year. The fee is used to purchase new tools and supplies for the Community Garden.

Gardeners are encouraged to use sustainable practices in their plots. Each year there are one or two workdays that garden members are requested to participate in to help upkeep the overall appearance of the garden.

If you are interested in having a garden plot, reach out to Adam Wild at the Cornell University Uihlein Maple Research Forest: adw94@cornell.edu or 518-523-9337.
