USA Bobsled Push Championships kick off competitive season

LAKE PLACID — The USA Bobsled Push Championships will take place at the new ice facility at the Olympic Sports Complex at Mount Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid this Friday and Saturday, July 30- 31.

Competing in push championships is one of the qualifying steps for bobsled athletes to earn a spot on the 2021-22 USA Bobsled National Team.

“We are so excited to kick off the 2022 Olympic season in the new iced facility, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support from New York state and the Olympic Regional Development Authority to make this dream a reality,” USA Bobsled Head Coach Mike Kohn said in a statement. “Push championships offer our athletes the opportunity to showcase their abilities, and we’re looking forward to seeing who rises to the top going into the Olympic year.”

The event will be broadcast live on the USA Bobsled & Skeleton Facebook page. Spectators are able to attend in-person.

Starting at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, the men’s drivers, as well the women’s push athletes, will compete. Women’s drivers and men’s push athletes will compete on Saturday, starting at 10:30 a.m. The lowest combined time for each of the events will determine the winners for each competition.

The next time the bobsled athletes will compete in Lake Placid for combination push competition will be on Sept. 4 and Sept. 5. Lake Placid will also host the USA Skeleton Push Championships on Sept. 29 and Sept. 30.
