LP runners wrap up regular season

SARANAC LAKE — The Lake Placid boys and girls cross country teams were solid in their final meet of the regular season on Oct. 25 in Saranac Lake. Both teams picked up wins over Northeastern Clinton and Moriah/Boquet Valley but fell to the Red Storm. The Blue Bomber girls improved to 11-5, and the boys moved to 9-8.

In a competitive girls’ race, Lake Placid’s Lilly Rother was the first finisher with a time of 20 minutes, 20 seconds, while her teammate Kai McKinnon took second place in 21:58.

Following Rother and McKinnon was a trio of Saranac Lake runners, who claimed the next three spots. The Red Storm’s Astacia Bruno (22:20) finished in third place overall, followed by Addi Ash (22:29) in fourth and Phoebe Peer (23:12) in fifth. The Blue Bombers’ Harley Cohen then finished in sixth in 23:32, while Lake Placid’s Jenna Fay (24:27) finished in 10th place.

Lake Placid also had strong performances from Holly Erenstone (26:05) in 13th place and Mya Marshall (26:39) in 15th.

The Red Storm girls’ efforts were enough to edge out the Blue Bombers 27-28. Saranac Lake earned a 15-50 win over Moriah/Bouquet Valley and a 17-39 win over Northeastern Clinton. Lake Placid outscored Moriah/Bouquet Valley 15-50 and Northeastern Clinton 19-38.

For the boys, Saranac Lake’s Sam Ash won the race in 16:24. He was followed by teammate Jake Kollmer (16:46) in second, Lake Placid’s Andrew Scanio (17:02) in third and Lake Placid’s Aidan Fay (17:18) in fourth.

Saranac Lake claimed the next five spots, starting with Sam Bickford (17:52) in fifth place, Aiden Hesseltine (18:30) in sixth, Morgan Martin (18:41) in seventh, Sam Madden (18:51) in eight and Max Hall (18:51) in ninth. Lake Placid’s Colin Francis (19:07) took 10th to round out the top 10 runners.

The Red Storm boys raced to wins over Moriah/Boquet Valley and Northeastern Clinton by identical 15-50 scores. Saranac Lake’s closest competition was against Lake Placid with a 21-40 score. The Blue Bombers boys defeated Northeastern Clinton (19-36) and Moriah/Boquet Valley (21-36).

The cross country teams will shift their focus to the playoffs starting with the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Championships at Mount Van Hoevenberg on Oct. 29. The girls’ varsity race will begin at 11 a.m, followed by the boys’ race at noon.
