Bombers Nordic sweeps invite

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid varsity boys and girls Nordic ski teams swept the Section VII Nordic Invitational at their home course at Mount Van Hoevenberg Saturday morning.

The Blue Bomber boys won the varsity meet with a total of 19 points, followed by Guilderland, in second, with 22. Saranac Lake was third with 24 points in the nine-team race.

Lake Placid’s girls squad won their race with 21 points and the Red Storm were second overall with 24, narrowly edging out Shenendehowa, which placed third with 25. The girls race had 10 different teams from across the state.

Aidan Fay led the Lake Placid boys with a second place overall finish in 19 minutes, 58 seconds. Guilderland’s Landon Kinal won the boys race in 19:50.7, while Shenendehowa’s Jacob Perkins (20:02.1) was third.

Colin Francis also cracked the top-five for the Blue Bombers, placing fourth in 20:08.9, edging out Saranac Lake’s top skier, Mason Stoddard, who finished in fifth in 21:11.2,

Lake Placid also had strong finishes from Connor Mannion (23:10.9) in 13th; Trey Mariano (23:17.9) in 15th; and Will Coffin (24:42.7) in 20th.

The Red Storm boys skiers were rounded out by Alex Evans (22:13.2) in ninth; Liam Stoddard (22:30.3) in 10th; Ebin Meissner (22:38.0) in 11th; and Keaton Daley (22:47.8) in 12th.

On the girls side, Maya Garrison was the top area skier, placing third overall for the Blue Bombers in 23:46.7. Adirondack High School’s Cora Hinsdill (21:40.1) won the race, while Shenendehowa’s Raquelle Landa (22:30.3) was second.

Garrison’s Lake Placid teammate, Leila Fey, placed fourth overall in 24:02.2 to help secure the victory. The team was rounded out by Holly Erenstone (25:38.5) in 14th and Rose Wenzler (30:37.4) in 22nd.

Tyler Burth paced Saranac Lake with a seventh place finish in 24:18.0. Burth was followed by teammates Pepper Laxson (24:22.0) in eighth; Cadence Kennedy (24:35.2) in ninth and Kaylee Holmes (24:50.2) in 10th. The Red Storm’s Lila Zobel (29:15.4) skied to 21st place.

The local Nordic teams will return to league racing at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday at Mount Van Hoevenberg.
